UAH Surges to No. 1 As GSC Women's Soccer Standings Shake Up

UAH jumps to No. 1 after shutout wins, Montevallo climbs back to the top three, and West Alabama slips in the latest GSC women’s soccer standings.

The beginning of conference play has turned the GSC standings on their head. Last week’s standings leader West Alabama now sits in the middle of the pack at No. 8, while middle team (previously No. 6) Alabama-Huntsville (UAH) now floats to No. 1. 

After a temporary fall, Montevallo comes right back to the top three.

UAH topped No. 5 Lee and No. 9 Trevecca for their GSC opening weekend, both in 2-0 shutouts. The Chargers sport a four-game winning streak, bouncing back from the slower season against McKendree (1-1) and Tampa (0-1) that left them lower on the standings list. 

Trevecca helped UAH establish the lead with an own goal in the second half. The Chargers built off that momentum to net a second in the 82nd minute.

The Chargers face off against Montevallo Sept. 27 for another GSC game. Both teams received six points in the latest standings data, the highest of all teams.

Montevallo had a stumble in week two when they went up against NCAA DII top 25 teams Florida Tech (1-2) and Catawba College (0-3). But the experience only made them stronger for GSC play, where they blanked both Auburn (1-0) and Valdosta (4-0). The Falcons made a sharp jump right back to the GSC top three.

West Alabama falls from the top after tying 0-0 to Trevecca and then losing 1-2 to Lee. Lee made their mark on the scoreboard early, establishing a two-point lead in the first half. Though West Alabama began closing the gap in the second, they couldn’t find a second goal to draw the game.
