GSC Women's Soccer Standings: Montevallo Drops, West Alabama Takes Lead

Montevallo slides to No. 11 in the GSC women’s soccer standings, while West Alabama claims first, West Florida rebounds, and UAH surges to No. 6.

Montevallo has dropped to No. 11 after spending two weeks at No. 2 in the GSC standings.

The Falcons entered the season as underdogs, securing the only first-place vote not given to West Florida. After two weeks at No. 2, they fell sharply following back-to-back losses. 

One defeat came against NCAA DII No. 19 Catawba. Despite an early save by first-time starter Frida Larsson, Catawba scored in the 6th minute. Two more second-half goals sealed the 3-0 shutout, while Montevallo’s five shot attempts came up empty.

Despite their tough last week, Montevallo is not out of the running. They even received votes in the NCAA DII National Poll 1. As they work out the kinks in their lineup, they look to come back next week stronger.

Meanwhile, West Alabama find themselves on top after a tie against Clayton State and a 2-0 shutout against Tusculum University. 

West Florida, as was expected based on the preseason poll, recovered from its week one draw against Embry-Riddle to put two wins on their record. West Florida topped Lynn and University of Tampa, both in 2-0 shutouts. 

UAH also made noise this week, jumping from No. 10 to No. 6 after wins against Saint Leo and Kentucky Wesleyan. They’ll face their first GSC opponent, Lee University, this week in a key test.
