Lee University Climbs to No. 1 in GSC Women's Soccer Standings Week 1
Lee University rises to first in the GSC Women’s Soccer Standings after a long-awaited win over Lenoir-Rhyne, while West Florida slips to sixth.

Lee University takes the top spot in this week’s GSC Women’s Soccer Standings after starting in third. In Lee’s three-game history with Lenoir-Rhyne University, the Sept. 4 season opener resulted in Lee’s first win following two consecutive tie games, one in 2023 and one in 2024. This long-awaited win propelled Lee’s rise to first, replacing West Florida.

West Florida received all possible first-place votes in the preseason poll, which makes it all the more surprising that they slid from first to sixth in week one. Their season opener was a 3-1 success over Flagler, but their second game ended in a 2-2 tie against Embry-Riddle.
Mississippi College, which began ranked fifth in preseason, dropped off the list entirely. The team warmed up the season with a knockout opening scrimmage against Mississippi Valley State, winning 7-0. But when season play began, they entered a two-game losing streak against DBU and Texas Woman’s.
West Alabama, previously eleventh, and Spring Hill, previously tenth, both rose during week one to fourth and fifth, respectively. This will give both teams a confidence boost as they carry through the beginnings of the season.
