NCAA Womens Soccer Rankings: UCLA Rises, Stanford Slips to No. 3 (Sept. 9)

The latest NCAA women's soccer rankings bring changes as UCLA jumps to No. 4 after beating No. 3 Stanford. No. 1 Tennessee and No. 2 Duke stay on top.

Stanford shuffled down from first to third in the latest 2025 NCAA women's college soccer rankings after a loss to No. 4 UCLA, previously 18th, this week. The University of Tennessee (No. 1) and Duke (No. 2) stayed on top of their game and kept the top spots.

Before Sunday, UCLA had been playing a solid season, though still finding its footing. After an opening 1-0 win against Georgia, the Bruins fell to Tennessee and BYU in back-to-back 1-0 games. The team was sporting a two-game win streak to build confidence when it beat Stanford in a 2-0 shutout. The Bruins found a goal per half. Both the Stanford men’s and women’s teams fell from No. 1 this week after losses.

Vanderbilt (No. 13), previously 25th, and TCU (No. 14), previously fourth, met in the middle of the rankings board. Vanderbilt has worked on proving itself a strong team with a 6-1-0 record. With recent wins against Yale, Georgetown (No. 16) and Middle Tennessee (1-0), the team keeps chipping away. TCU experienced its first loss of the season against Northwestern at home.

New to the top 25 rankings are the University of Iowa (No. 11), the University of Wisconsin (No. 23) and Colorado State University (No. 25). Iowa has performed well in the opening of the season with a 5-1-1 record. Its jump up the rankings may reflect a recalibration after being overlooked in earlier polls.
