SAC Announces 2022 Men's Soccer Award Winners And All-Conference Teams

Lincoln Memorial forward Harry Cooke was voted as the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year and SAC Freshman of the Year, while Wingate defender Owen Marshall was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Wingate head coach Gary Hamill was voted as the Coach of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.

Cooke, a freshman from Market Drayton, England, was one of the top offensive producers in the SAC this season. He leads the league in goals with 15, points with 31 and game-winning goals with four. Five times this season Cooke scored multiple goals in a game, and he recorded two hat tricks.

For his efforts, Cooke was named SAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week twice.

Marshall, a junior from York, England, led Wingate its first SAC regular season title since 2017. He anchored a defensive backline that allowed just 11 goals all season and posted a 0.63 goals-against average as a team with seven shutouts.

In addition to his stellar defense, Marshall chipped in offensively, scoring five goals with two game-winning goals.

Hamill earns his ninth SAC Coach of the Year honor after leading the Bulldogs to an 10-3-5 overall record, going 6-1-4 in the SAC, and earning the program’s ninth SAC regular-season championship.

His Bulldogs were fourth in the league in scoring with 29 goals, and they allowed just 11 goals on the defensive side of the ball.

Joining Cooke and Marshall on the All-SAC first team were forwards Peter Plougmand of Mars Hill, Mark Radoki of Limestone and Adrian Martina of Lenoir-Rhyne.

The first-team midfielders were Carles Montoliu Lobo of Lenoir-Rhyne, Pedro Santos of Wingate, Angelo Fabricio of Limestone and Nic Carsh of Carson-Newman.

On defense, Gustavo Palmieri of Coker, Dani Fernandez of Lenoir-Rhyne and Stefan Roeb of Limestone were named to the first team.

Wingate’s Aleksa Janjic was named the first-team goalkeeper.
