Vik recorded his third shutout of 2022 to keep Delaware’s season alive Saturday in a 1-0 win over Monmouth.

NEWS AND NOTES

DECISION DAY

The final two spots in the 2022 CAA Championship will be decided Saturday in an exciting final day of the regular season, while one of two host sites for the tournament’s opening weekend still is to be determined.

Elon, UNCW, Hofstra and Drexel are into the field, with three of Saturday’s five games including at least one team playing to get into the field.

Elon has secured hosting rights for a semifinal next weekend and would be the No. 1 seed with a win or draw against UNCW on Saturday, while a Seahawks win would secure the top spot with a victory. Hofstra also is in contention to host an opening weekend site.

POWER BALL

Elon’s win over North Carolina last Tuesday was the CAA’s second in as many weeks against the CAA, after William & Mary defeated then-No. 10 Wake Forest the previous Tuesday.

Charleston (NC State) and Hofstra (No. 18 Virginia) earned draws against the ACC in the last two Tuesdays, while Drexel was level with No. 15 Penn.

RESUME WORKSHOP

Elon’s RPI of 31 leads the CAA, as the Phoenix aim to make the tournament field either via the automatic qualifier or as an at-large. Hofstra also is in the top 50 at 43 and looks to improve its standing entering November.

The CAA has two wins and three draws in nine matchups with the ACC this fall and is 6-1-5 vs. the Atlantic 10.

BRICK WALLS

CAA defenses and goalkeepers have been among some of the nation’s best in 2022.

UNCW’s Gabriel Perrotta ranks fifth nationally entering the week with a .848 save percentage.

Elon’s Ryan Bilichuk is 10th in the nation with a 0.600 goals-against average.

Bilichuk ranks second in Division I with nin shutouts, Perrotta is seventh with seven, and the duo is joined in the top 30 by Monmouth’s Eryk Dymora (6) and William & Mary’s Danilo Nikcevic (5).

ELIOT GOAL-THORP

Hofstra’s Eliot Goldthorp is tied for second in the nation in goals (12) and game-winning goals (5) and third in points (29).

Goldthorp’s first goal in a Hofstra uniform was an opening-night game-winner at 89:59 that earned a spot on SportsCenter.
