Delaney Lappin, Drexel

Junior | Forward | Corbin City, New Jersey / Ocean City

Lappin scored three times in a 1-0-1 week that helped Drexel finish the weekend in a tie for first place in the CAA.

The junior from South Jersey tallied the first goal of Drexel’s win over Hofstra on Thursday, before scoring twice in the Dragons’ 4-4 draw with Stony Brook on Sunday.

Alexis Legowski, Northeastern

Senior | Midfielder | South Hadley, Massachusetts / MacDuffie School

Legowski’s three goals propelled Northeastern to a two-win weekend and a tie atop the CAA table.

The senior from Western Massachusetts scored in a 3-2 win at William & Mary on Thursday and recorded a brace in the Huskies’ victory on a short turnaround Saturday against Hampton.

Riley Melendez, Towson

Junior | Goalkeeper | Springfield, Virginia / Lee

Melendez recorded two shutouts in a 1-0-1 weekend for Towson, with a victory over Charleston and draw with UNCW.

The junior goalkeeper made six stops in Towson’s 2-0 win at Charleston on Thursday and stopped both UNCW attempts in Sunday’s scoreless draw.

Gabrielle Côté, Stony Brook

Freshman | Forward | Pincourt, Quebec / Vanier College

Côté recorded her first two career goals to help Stony Brook earn a 4-4 draw at Drexel on Sunday.

The freshman from Quebec answered an early strike from Drexel to level things in the fourth minute and followed by scoring a game-tying goal with six seconds remaining to earn a four-point weekend for the Seawolves.

The final two-game week of CAA play will see conference tournament berths for multiple teams.

Drexel and Northeastern are tied atop the table at 13 points, while Monmouth (11) and UNCW (10) are also into double digits. Of that group, Northeastern and UNCW met in last year’s CAA semifinals, while Monmouth won a conference title in its last year in the MAAC.

A three-team tie at nine points features three teams - Elon, Towson and William & Mary - that are looking to return to the CAA Championship after not appearing last November.

CAA women’s soccer players continue to rack up national honors with two more recognized this week, as Drexel’s Delaney Lappin and Towson’s Riley Melendez collected honorable mention nods.

It marked the fifth straight week at least two CAA women’s players, and a minimum of three players across men’s and women’s soccer, were recognized.

Players from 11-of-12 CAA programs have been recognized this fall, including multiple players from Charleston, Drexel, Northeastern, Towson and William & Mary.

The CAA features five goalkeepers with at least six shutouts this season.

Towson’s Riley Melendez is second nationally with nine shutouts, while Monmouth’s Cassie Coster is ninth with eight clean sheets this fall. William & Mary’s Zoe Doughty, Northeastern’s Holland Stam, and Hofstra’s Skylar Kuzmich each have six shutouts on the year.

Towson’s Nia Christopher scored five times in the Tigers’ win over Delaware State, breaking a program record and tallying two more goals than any other player in the nation in a single game this season.

Christopher’s five goals were the most by a CAA player in the 21st Century and one shy of the conference record set in 1996.

Eight teams will qualify for the CAA Championship in 2022, with the quarterfinals and semifinals hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.

The top remaining seed will host the conference title game the first weekend of November.

Three CAA seniors - Hofstra’s Lucy Shepherd (Washington) and Miri Taylor (Angel City) and UNCW’s Audrey Harding (Washington) - were selected in last winter’s NWSL Draft. The three CAA selections were tied for the most of any non-Power 5 conference.
