Crain adds Offensive Player of the Week honors to two rookie nods in 2022 after helping William & Mary earn four points in the first weekend of CAA play.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Beky Myers, Elon

Senior | Defender | Fairfax, Virginia / Fairfax

Myers anchored the Elon defense in back-to-back shutout wins to give the Phoenix its first 2-0-0 start in nine seasons in the CAA.

The senior from Northern Virginia played 169 of 180 minutes on the weekend, including all 90 in a victory over Northeastern, in which she added an assist.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

NEWS AND NOTES

TWO IN THE BOOKS, TWO IN THE LEAD

The first two-game week of CAA play concluded with Drexel and Elon atop the table after 2-0-0 starts, while Stony Brook and William & Mary also emerged without a defeat.

Drexel is 7-0-3 on the year after a pair of 3-2 wins in the first weekend of the conference schedule and is one of 12 remaining unbeaten teams nationally entering the week.

Elon shut out Northeastern and Monmouth to begin league action, while Stony Brook and William & Mary earned a draw against each other, before the Seawolves blanked Hampton in a record-setting performance and the Tribe earned a 2-0 win at Hofstra.

NATIONAL TREASURE

CAA women’s soccer players collected four national honors from Top Drawer Soccer for their performances last week.

Stony Brook’s Linn Beck, William & Mary’s Ivey Crain and Elaina Longjohn, and Elon’s Beky Myers collected honorable mention Team of the Week recognition.

It marked the third straight week at least two CAA women’s players, and a minimum of four players across men’s and women’s soccer, were recognized.

MAMA SAID SHUT YOU OUT

The CAA features six goalkeepers with at least five shutouts this season.

Monmouth’s Cassie Coster and Towson’s Riley Melendez are tied for fifth in the nation with seven shutouts each, while Elon’s McKenna Dalfonso, William & Mary’s Zoe Doughty, Hofstra’s Skylar Kuzmich, and Northeastern’s Holland Stam each have five on the year.

HIGH FIVE!

Towson’s Nia Christopher scored five times in the Tigers’ win over Delaware State, breaking a program record and tallying two more goals than any other player in the nation in a single game this season.

Christopher’s five goals were the most by a CAA player in the 21st Century and one shy of the conference record set in 1996.
