Maryland Tops NCAA DI Men's Soccer Rankings For First Time Since 2019

Maryland rises to No. 1 in the NCAA Division I men’s soccer rankings for the first time since 2019 after Stanford’s fall from the top spot.

Maryland takes the top spot in the NCAA Division I men’s soccer rankings for the first time since 2019

Stanford held the No. 1 spot for four straight weeks until it drew with SMU 0-0 and fell to Cal 1-0 in back-to-back games. The Cardinal dropped to No. 7, their lowest ranking since Week 5, leaving the top wide open for Maryland.

Maryland has played a steady game from the start. Even in the later weeks, the Terrapins have continued to defeat ranked programs such as No. 25 Indiana 3-2 and No. 15 Washington 1-0. Maryland is one of two unbeaten ranked programs, extending its record to 11-0-3.

No. 2 Vermont, also unbeaten, improved to 11-0-5 with wins over No. 6 Bryant 2-1 and UAlbany 2-0. No. 3 Princeton recently defeated Yale 4-0, helping the Tigers climb from their previous No. 5 position.

Stanford’s slide comes at an inopportune time with the NCAA Division I tournament right around the corner. But luckily for the Terrapins, top seed is gold, and Maryland plans to keep it.
