The D1 men’s soccer rankings look vastly different from last week. Stanford climbs back to the top after five weeks, improving to 10-1-1 following a 2-0 shutout over Wake Forest.

No. 2 Vermont and No. 3 Bryant both secured top-three spots after Portland and NC State, last week’s chart leaders, stumbled during tough matchups.

NC State, now ranked No. 10, suffered their first loss of the season after being blanked by Virginia on home turf. Portland slid to No. 6 after a 1-1 draw against Loyola Marymount. Despite the setbacks, both teams remain in contention and could bounce back in the coming weeks.

Stanford's Rise Back to No. 1 in Latest D1 Men’s Soccer Rankings

A Stanford return to the top seemed inevitable. The Cardinals have shown consistent form all season, and their win over Wake Forest not only lifted them to No. 1 but also delivered another blow to a fading Wake Forest squad. Once the top team in the country during week four, the Demon Deacons are now unranked for the second straight week and received no votes in Poll 7.

Virginia Shuts Out NC State in Statement Win

Virginia’s 1-0 win over NC State came down to sharper execution. The Cavaliers outshot the Wolfpack 4-2 and scored the game-winning goal in the 20th minute. Despite having ample time to equalize, NC State couldn’t break through the UVA defense.

Portland Stays Unbeaten Despite Late Draw vs. LMU

Portland’s result was more surprising. The Pilots controlled most of the match against Loyola Marymount and led until the 81st minute. A late equalizer from Jaxson Hutcheon, assisted by Nathan Rodrigues, left Portland with a draw. While disappointing, the Pilots remain unbeaten this season — a key reason why they’re still in the top 10.
