Trio Of CAA Soccer Schools Remain Undefeated In Women's & Men's Soccer
Three of the five undefeated universities in college soccer are CAA members. Monmouth, Hofstra, and Elon Soccer are without a loss so far in 2024.
As the 2024 college soccer season enters its fifth week on the women’s side and fourth in men’s competition, the sport’s 500-plus Division I programs have been tested.
Sometimes those tests have ended in some last-minute drama, a monumental win, or simply taking care of business for 90 minutes.
On five Division I campuses, the way none of those contests have ended for either the women’s or men’s program so far in 2024 is with a loss.

Three of those five universities are CAA members, as Elon – the nation’s lone D1 athletic department without a loss or draw in men’s or women’s soccer – joins undefeated programs from Hofstra and Monmouth to help the conference to a great start in 2024.
Elon’s beginning to the year has been remarkable: nine wins, no losses, no draws; 22 goals scored and five against for the two Phoenix programs combined. Elon’s fiery start has included a 14-2 score differential and a bevy of highlight-reel goals from the men’s program and back-to-back shutouts to open the year on the women’s side, including one in front of over 2,000 fans on campus.
“Both programs, staff, and players all get along really well and support each other, it is great that we are both off to a strong start,” said Elon men’s soccer head coach Marc Reeves. “There is an understanding in both programs of the need to stay committed to the daily habits that have seen success so far and that consistency is needed to sustain it during the challenging ups and downs of a college soccer season. We are very thankful to our support staff for their hard work to give our athletes what they need.”
National poll voters on the men’s side have recognized as well. Hofstra has been in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 all but one week this year, while Elon was receiving votes last Tuesday and seems primed to join the rankings when they are released late Tuesday. The Phoenix and Pride both sit in the top 15 of the most recent Top Drawer Soccer rankings.
Both Hofstra programs have succeeded in recent years, with the men’s program winning the last three CAA titles and the women’s side capturing four of the past six.
“I am tremendously proud of the success that both our soccer teams have had this season and in recent years,” said Hofstra men’s soccer head coach Richard Nuttall. There is still a long way to go this season, but it is a testament to our coaching staffs, student-athletes, and administration’s commitment to competing at an extremely high level.”
Monmouth’s first two years in the CAA have shown that the Hawks are ready to compete with the league’s standard bearers. Both Monmouth programs played in their respective CAA title games in 2023, with the men’s team taking Hofstra beyond 90 minutes. The women’s program – which won six MAAC titles in nine years before joining the league – has produced an undefeated start in 2024 powered by a draw against a top-25 Virginia Tech side in August.
“This is an extraordinary accomplishment not only for our Monmouth men’s and women’s soccer programs but also for the CAA," said Monmouth women's soccer head coach Kylee Flynn. "For Monmouth, this highlights the qualities and efforts of our staffs and the unwavering pride and hard work from our student-athletes. As for the CAA, this achievement shows the caliber of this conference in the sport of soccer and across the board.”
With CAA matches having arrived on the men’s side and being days away in women’s competition, in addition to some challenging non-conference contests – including a nationally televised game for the Elon men next week at Wake Forest – the zeroes may not stay in the loss column until November for all six programs.
Regardless, the strength of soccer – a combined strength of the programs that play at Rudd Field, Hofstra Soccer Stadium, and Hesse Field on the Great Lawn – will be on full display as the calendar continues turning this fall.
