The Gulf South Conference announced its women's basketball weekly award winners for Week 8 of the 2023-24 season with games played between January 1-7.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Haley Nichols, R-Jr., C, Alabama Huntsville

Nichols starred in Alabama Huntsville's 63-50 victory over Christian Brothers, recording a career-high 33 points on an impressive 74 percent shooting last Saturday. The scoring performance was also the second-highest single-game total in the GSC this season. The redshirt-junior was solid at the charity stripe, making 4-of-5, and contributed seven rebounds. Nichols also knocked down a three-pointer and provided one assist, playing a big role in over half of UAH’s offensive success in the victory.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Cali Smallwood, Fr., G/F, Montevallo

Smallwood propelled Montevallo to a perfect 2-0 record for the week, earning her third Freshman of the Week award. She averaged 11 points, 10.5 rebounds, and one assist. The rookie opened the week by securing her third double-double of the season with an 11-point, 14-rebound effort in a 59-43 win over Christian Brothers. Smallwood maintained her strong performance against West Florida, finishing with 11 points on 56 percent shooting and seven rebounds.
