St. John's Women's Basketball returns this season after one of the best years in program history. Here's a look at the Red Storm basketball schedule.

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding St. John’s basketball for the 2023-2024 season, and that excitement extends to the Red Storm’s women’s basketball team. 

While Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Pitino takes over the men’s team, the women’s team is coming off a 23-9 season where it went 14-3 at home and reached the second round of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Red Storm were just two points away from reaching the Sweet 16, losing to No. 6-seed North Carolina, 61-59. 

Coach Joe Tartamella became the head coach in 2012 and was a finalist for Naismith National Coach of the Year last season after winning 2023 BIG EAST Coach of The Year honors. He took the Johnnies back to the tournament for the first time since 2016. He also scored one of the biggest wins in program history when St. John’s beat UConn 69-64 in Hartford. 

St. John’s enters the season picked sixth in the conference, and reigning BIG EAST Sixth Woman of the Year Unique Drake was honorable mention All-BIG EAST. 

The schedule includes a nonconference game against Penn State on Nov. 16, which will be streaming live on FloHoops and the FloSports app, as well as a trip to San Juan, where the Red Storm will face VCU and UCF.

When Is The BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament?

BIG EAST teams will compete to be the automatic qualifier for the 2024 NCAA Tournament beginning March 8 in Uncasville, Connecticut. The BIG EAST Tournament championship game is March 11. 

When Is The 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament?

Selection Sunday for the NCAA Women’s Tournament is March 17, 2024. The First Four will tip off March 20, with the Round of 64 beginning March 22.
