As is the usual case, the Anchor-Bone Classic will feature a pair of top-10-ranked Division II NCAA football teams. 

Ferris State remained No.1 in the Division II poll on Oct. 9 after the Bulldogs beat Saginaw Valley State 38-17. Ferris State has not budged from the top spot in the rankings and the only loss came on the road to the No. 10-ranked FCS program, Montana.

The defending DII national champions will face its toughest DII challenge of the 2023 season thus far in the form of its biggest rival, Grand Valley State University. 

GVSU, the last DII program to beat Ferris State, came in at No. 7 in the latest poll. The only loss the Lakers have suffered was to No. 2-ranked Colorado School of Mines on the road in Week 1. 

The South Atlantic Conference and the Gulf South Conference are also well represented in the rankings. GSC teams West Florida is ranked No. 6 and Delta State No. 8. Valdosta State dropped from the rankings after its loss to Delta State. 

Undefeated Lenoir-Rhyne (6-0) of the SAC is No. 12.
