WEEKLY AWARDS

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ryan Carmichael, Hofstra

Senior | Forward | Armagh, Northern Ireland / St. Patrick’s Academy

Carmichael scored three times and added an assist as No. 24 Hofstra defeated LIU and William & Mary. The senior from Northern Ireland tallied a goal and an assist in the Pride’s 3-0 win over their Nassau County rivals on Tuesday before scoring both goals, including a late game-winner, in a 2-1 victory over the Tribe on Saturday.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Wessel Speel, Hofstra

Senior | Goalkeeper | Utrecht, Netherlands / St. Bonifatius College

Speel made eight saves against one goal allowed and added an assist offensively in No. 24 Hofstra’s 2-0-0 week. The senior from The Netherlands made five saves in a shutout of LIU on Tuesday before collecting three stops and assisting on a goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over William & Mary.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Arturo McConnochie, Monmouth

Freshman | Forward/Midfield | Watchung, N.J. / Watchung Hills Regional

McConnochie repeats as Rookie of the Week after adding another goal to his freshman year tally in Saturday’s win over Delaware. The 61st minute strike doubled the Monmouth lead to 2-0 in an eventual 4-0 victory that ran the Hawks’ unbeaten streak to five.

NEWS AND NOTES

OH, WE’RE HALFWAY THERE

Five CAA teams have reached the midway point of their league schedules with the remaining six joining them in Saturday’s action.

Stony Brook is atop the table at eight points with a 2-0-2 start to CAA play; the Seawolves were picked to finish 11th out of 11 in the preseason coaches’ poll.

Drexel is one point behind with seven and followed by a four-team logjam of Hofstra, Monmouth, Charleston, and Northeastern, any of whom can jump into a tie for first with a win Saturday.

DOZEN GOOSE EGGS

Charleston is one of the last 12 teams in the nation with a 0 in the loss column in 2023 entering Tuesday’s game at No. 21 Duke.

The Cougars are joined on that list by Marshall, San Diego State, Missouri State, Northwestern, West Virginia, Michigan State, SIUE, North Carolina, Akron, Saint Francis, and Old Dominion.

GET OUT THE VOTE

Hofstra is in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the second straight week at No. 19.

The Pride is 6-1-2 entering Tuesday’s game vs. Binghamton, which will air regionally on MSG2.

TUESDAY TESTS

Two CAA teams will take on Top 25 opponents in midweek action against ACC competition.

Campbell will host No. 10 Wake Forest in Buies Creek, while Charleston - undefeated on the year - heads to No. 21 Duke.

TEAM NOTES

Adam Yousfi has factored into six of Campbell’s eight goals this season with four goals and two assists.

Charleston is undefeated over a seven-game stretch for the first time since 2017.

Delaware’s Carlos Fernandez enters the week tied for second in the nation with seven goals scored.

Drexel’s Alessandro Capogna recorded his eighth career clean sheet in Saturday’s win.

Elon’s six goals have come from five different players.

Hofstra’s Ryan Carmichael was named College Soccer News National Player of the Week on Monday and leads the nation with 18 total points.

Monmouth is unbeaten in five straight matches for the first time since a 5-0-0 stretch from Sept. 29-Oct. 16, 2021.

UNCW has held six of nine opponents to a single-digit shot total this season.

Northeastern’s Federico Tellez is tied for fifth nationally with six assists this fall.

Stony Brook is undefeated in four straight games to begin league play for the first time since 2018.

William & Mary has played two teams ranked in this week’s United Soccer Coaches poll (No. 24 New Hampshire, No. 19 Hofstra) with a game to come against No. 18 North Carolina on Oct. 17.
