Newberry Wins Regular-Season Title, Seeds Announced For Conference Tourney

Newberry will be the No. 1 seed in the SAC Baseball Championship, which will begin April 28-30. The event will conclude with a best-of-three series May 7-8.

Newberry Wins Regular-Season Title, Seeds Announced For Conference Tourney

Newberry is the South Atlantic Conference Baseball regular-season champion.

The Wolves finished the SAC portion of their 2023 schedule with a 19-4 record and an overall record of 36-9. 

Newberry will be the No. 1 seed in the SAC Baseball Championship. Opening-round play will be held April 28-30, and the tournament will conclude with a best-of-three series May 7-8.

Wingate finished the regular season with an 18-6 record, placing them in the No. 2 slot. 

Catawba finished with a 26-7 conference record to receive the No. 3 seed. 

Carson-Newman finished the season with a 15-8 record giving them the No. 4 spot, while Lenoir-Rhyne finished with a 15-9 SAC record to earn the No. 5 seed. 

Lincoln Memorial ended the season with a 13-11 record in SAC play to earn the No. 6 seed.

Anderson earned the No. 7 seed with a SAC record of 12-11, and Tusculum picked up the No. 8 seed with an 11-13 league record.

Tusculum and Limestone both finished the regular season with records of 11-13, but Tusculum won the tiebreaker, thanks to a 2-1 head-to-head record.

The double-elimination 2023 SAC Baseball Championship will begin with seeds 1, 4, 5 and 8 playing at Newberry’s Smith Road Baseball Complex in Newberry, South Carolina, and seeds 2, 3, 6 and 7 heading to the Wingate’s Ron Christopher Stadium in Wingate, North Carolina. 

The two remaining teams after the opening round will meet for a best-of-three series at the Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tennessee on May 7-8 to determine the 2023 SAC Baseball champion.
